Despite his historic arraignment on 37 federal charges, former President Trump is still the favorite for the GOP 2024 presidential candidate nomination, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

Republican support for the former president shows no signs of wavering, with Trump receiving 53 percent support from Republican-leaning voters. Trump's primary opponent, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, is second with 23 percent. No other Republican candidate scored in the double digits.

Prospects for Trump in a hypothetical 2024 rematch with President Biden are much less rosy, with Biden leading Trump 48 - 44 percent among registered voters. In May, the split was 48 - 46 in favor of Biden.

President Biden is by far the biggest leader for the Democratic primary, taking 70 percent of the vote. The only challenger to score above 10 percent was Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 17 percent.

As far as what issues voters are concerned with, the economy and preserving democracy in the United States were listed as the top choices, with the economy scoring 30 percent of the votes and democracy coming in as a close second with 27 percent.
